HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 7555 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 7555 October 1, 1991 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council Subject: ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN PARKS With regard to alcoholic beverages in parks, Section 24• 18 of the Code of the City of Fort Worth states: "The director of parks and recreation of the city is authorized to determine and designate any park or portion of a park as an area where the drinking of alcoholic beverages is prohibited and to place or erect appropriate signs indicating same. It shall be unlawful for any person to consume or to possess with intent to consume any alcoholic beverage in any park or portion of a park in which such consumption is prohibited." Alcoholic beverages are presently prohibited at the following parks and park areas: Camp Joy Diamond Hill M.G. Ellis Patricia LeBlanc Marine Ridglea Hills Riverside Rodeo Rosemont Rosenthal Sunset Sycamore Tadlock Thomas Place Worth Hills Wildwood Harmon Field Park Ballfield and Parking Lot Rockwood Park Ballfields #1 and #2 All Recreation Centers Zoological Park (excluding portions of Texas ! Exhibit) Section 24-17 of the"Code of the City of Fort Worth states: "It shall be unlawful for any person to possess alco- hol within any portion of a baseball or softball field which is totally enclosed by a fence in any park in the city. A sign shall be conspicuously posted at each entrance to such baseball or softball field prohibiting the possession of alcohol as follows: POSSESSION OF ALCOHOL WITHIN THESE PREMISES IS PROHIB- ITED UNDER SECTION 24-17 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH. PERSONS IN VIOLATION MAY BE FINED UP TO $200.00." -ISSUED BY THE CITY MANAGER FORT WORTH, TEXAS INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No.7555 October 1, 1991 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council Page 2 of 2 10 J?1;1 Z5 Y Subject: ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN PARKS During the last year alcohol has been sold in parks at these events: Mayfest in Trinity Park (Mayfest, Inc. ) Cinco de Mayo Festival in Marine Park (Boys and Girls Club of Greater Fort Worth, Inc.) Shakespeare in the Park in Trinity Park (Shakespeare in the Park, Inc.) Hispanic Scholarship Concert in Marine Park (Tejanos for Onda Music, Inc. ) Concerts in the Garden at the Botanic Garden (Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association and the Fort Worth Botanical Society) Mexican Independence Day Festival at Marine Park (All Saints Polk Catholic Church, Diocese of Fort Worth) Softball Tournament at Gateway Park (Knights of Columbus) When alcoholic beverages are sold in parks, the Park and Recreation Department requires that the sponsors provide public liability insurance, sign an4greement fully indemnifying the City, present a plan to prevent consumption of alcohol by minors, and hire off-duty police. At Marine Park, the ban on alcohol is temporarily sus- pended for special events, subject to the preceding conditions.
