"r 0 Consolidation of Lake Worth Patrol with Municipal Court
Subject: Services/Marshal's Division
tlT3
In adopting the FY 1994-91 budgetrthe City Council eliminated the Park Police function of
the City Park and Recreation Department. This resulted in the elimination of seven
positions. Three positions which provided patrol services to Lake Worth, surrounding City-
owned parks and leased property neighborhoods and are funded from the Lake Worth Fund
were transferred to the Real Property Department. (The department which manages most
Lake Worth property.) Subsequently, in the current fiscal year the Real Property
Department became a part of the Development Department.
In order to provide management of this unit from a law enforcement perspective and to
provide the backup and flexibility of being part of a larger law enforcement unit, the Lake
Worth Patrol Rangers are being transferred to the Municipal Court Warrant Office. The
unit will operate under the direction of the City Marshal. It will continue to function as a
separate unit assigned exclusively to Lake Worth patrol and will continue to be funded from
the Lake Worth Fund. The positions assigned to this unit will be reclassified to Deputy City
Marshal and will receive all necessary training and certification to hold this title. One
temporary full-time officer will be made permanent and one permanent Deputy City
Marshal position will be added to the unit bringing the total contingent to five full-time
positions. This will provide 24 hour a day, seven day a week coverage. Total cost of these
additions, $31,444, will also be borne by the Lake Worth fund.
These changes are expected to improve the quality of services being provided In the Lake
Worth area with no negative impact on the General Fund. If you need any additional
information, please don't hesitate to ask.
