DISCUSSION: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) completed a speed zone study to re-evaluate the speed for the section of State Highway (SH) 170 within the City Limits of Fort Worth in Denton County. TxDOT determined that the appropriate posted speed limit should be 70 miles per hour (mph). The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to amend the City Code to reflect a 70-mph posted speed limit along SH 170. The current posted speed limit within the City Limits is 55 mph. TxDOT requires an adopted City ordinance matching the zones on the speed study to proceed with changing the posted speed limit.
