DISCUSSION:
The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication is to authorize the acceptance of donated funds in
the amount of$19,290.69 benefiting the Learn to Swim Scholarship Program. The funds are comprised of
donations from citizens who attended the Forest Park Pool Sneak Peek fundraising event hosted by
Council Member Joel Burns on May 23, 2013 and from The Radler Foundation, who provided matching
funds to the final total raised that evening. The Radler Foundation had previously donated approximately
$500,000.00 to the City for the repair and renovation of the Forest Park Pool. In addition, those who could
not attend the fundraiser event on May 23, 2013 were able to contribute electronically through the City of
Fort Worth website.
All funds raised through these endeavors are designated for the Forest Park Pool and Marine Park Pool
Learn to Swim Summer Program. During the 2013 Learn to Swim Program, the amount of$5,725.00 in
scholarships were awarded to 229 youth, providing them with lifesaving water skills. The balance amount
of$13,565.69 will remain in the Special Trust Fund for use as Learn to Swim scholarships for future fiscal
years.
