November 9, 1993
To the Mayor and Members of the City Council
• Subject:
ZONING APPLICATION INFORMATION FOR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
The City Council, during a recent meeting, requested that information related
to zoning proposals scheduled for their regular monthly zoning hearing be
made available for their assistance at an earlier point in time than is now
occurring.
The monthly deadline for submission of zoning change proposals to be
considered by the Zoning Commission occurs on the second Monday of each
month. During the next three weeks, the submitted proposals are prepared for
the 'Commission,9 hearing which is regularly scheduled on the Wednesday after
the second Monday of the next month. This process includes preparation of
owner notification lists, a public hearing notice and the hearing agenda. The
notice is mailed to surrounding owners, and the agenda is distributed to
Commission members and Staff on the Friday, which is ten (10) days prior to
the Commission hearing, in conformance with current city and state codes.
Following Zoning Commission action, a resolution scheduling the City
Council's zoning hearing is prepared by the Development Department and
forwarded to the City Council for their adoption. This hearing is usually
op, scheduled on the Tuesday after the second Monday of the month following the
Zoning Commission hearing.
The original zoning agenda prepared for the Zoning Commission hearing is
mailed to the Commission members approximately five (5) weeks before the same
cases are scheduled for hearing by the City Council and approximately ten
(10) days prior to the Commission hearing. At that point, a copy of that
agenda could be made available to Council members. This procedure will be
instituted immediately, and the docket for the Zoning Commission's regular
monthly hearing scheduled on November 10 has been attached. Any further
information needed by City Council members will be available on request from
the Development Department.
