Subject: PLANNED BRIDGE IMPROVEMENTS 1l l In 1985, the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (now TxDOT) performed structural evaluations on most of the "off system" bridges located in the City of Fort Worth. This study rated each bridge numerically and identified deficiencies and needed repair. Emergency repairs were made to various bridges and load weight limits were placed on others. In 1988, TxDOT requested that the City of Fort Worth enter into Construction and Maintenance Agreements for the replacement of the Precinct Line Road Bridge over the West Fork of the Trinity River and the Mansfield Avenue Bridge over a Tributary of Sycamore Creek. Although the agreements were approved by City Council and the City's share of cost appropriated, the two bridge projects have been slow to develop. Fortunately, TxDOT has now completed the plans and received all necessary environmental clearances so that these two projects may proceed. Staff has been informed by TxDOT that construction bids are scheduled to be received in Austin in May, 1993. Construction should be underway later this summer. On today's agenda, City Council will consider M&C's **C-13820 and **C-13823 recommending approval of Construction and Maintenance agreements with TxDOT for the rehabilitation of the West Lancaster Avenue Bridge over the Clear Fork of the Trinity River and the Samuels Avenue Bridge over the West Fork of the Trinity River. These two important bridge projects have been included in TxDOT's 1993-95 Off-State System Federal-Aid Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program recently approved by the Texas Transportation Commission. Funding has been made available at this time through the Federal Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) . Approval of these two agreements will allow TxDOT to begin the design process for these two bridges. In addition, TxDOT recently asked the Staff if we would like them to submit the Northside Drive Bridge over the ATSF Railroad and the Cooks Lane Bridge over Cottonwood Creek as candidate projects in the Federal-Aid Bridge Replacement and Rehabilitation Program for the next fiscal year. Staff replied yes and we hope to receive approval of these two projects later this year. When received, the Construction and Maintenance Agreements will be submitted for City Council consideration. Staff is extremely pleased that these six important bridge projects are now moving ar Once completed they will represent significant improvements in the i y' i frastructure in both safety and traffic efficiency.
