Home My WebLink AboutIR 7886 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 7886 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council January 24, 1995 64 S Subject: fan YOUTH AT-RISK CONFERENCE On Thursday, February 16 through Sunday, February 19, 1995, the City of Fort Worth in cooperation with the American Academy of Park and Recreation Administration, National Recreation and Park Association and Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences, Texas A&M University will be hosting an invitational colloquium entitled "Recreation for At- Risk Youth - Programs that Work". The Colloquium will be held at the Ramada Inn. The Colloquium will represent a gathering of 150 practitioners and educators from across the nation who will conduct roundtable discussions of 26 examples of innovative programs which have had demonstrable success in addressing at-risk youth. Each of the case studies will eventually be published in a book which will be made available nationally to assist agencies in addressing at-risk youth problems. The 26 programs which will be presented were selected from over 100 applicants and participation by the delegates is based upon invitation only. The above signifies the selectiveness and prestige of this gathering and demonstrates the high quality of the programs to be presented. An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, February 16, 1995 at 6:30 p.m. and a banquet r is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 1995. The City Council is invited to attend one or both of these events. Attached is a copy of the draft program. The City of Fort Worth is fortunate to have been authorized a few participant slots which will enable us to send a limited number of our staff and local agency representatives. Arrangements can be made for attendance at all or portions of the conference for the City Council.
