Gonzales, Assistant City Secretary With a quorum of the City Council Members present, Mayor Parker called the City Council Work Session of the Fort Worth City Council to order at 1:33 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, in the City Council Conference Room 2020 of the Fort Worth City Hall, 200 Texas Street, Fort Worth, Texas. 1. Report of the City Manager - David Cooke, City Manager a. Upcoming and Recent Events Assistant City Manager Valerie Washington introduced Sonny Saxton as the City's new Emergency Communications and Management Director. Mr. Saxton provided a brief update on last week's weather response. Organizational Updates and Employee Recognition(s) City Manager David Cooke called on: - Chief Jim Davis who introduced Ashley Clement as Fire's Deputy Director. - Chief Davis recognized Fire Battalion Chief Sherri Hauch for her retirement on January 9, 2025. - Chief Davis recognized Fire Lieutenant Donna York for her part in consoling MedStar and family when one of their young men passed away. - Assistant City Manager Dana Burghdoff called on D.J. Harrell, Development Services Director, to introduce a new member of his leadership team; Cannon Henry as Development Services Assistant Director. - Dianna Giordano, Human Resources Director, introduced Richard Jones as the new Human Resources Assistant Director. - Reyne Telles, Chief Communications Officer, recognized FWTV for winning the 2024 Top -Ranked Video at the Texas Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (TATOA). c. City Council Requests for Future Agenda Items and/or Reports Council Member Beck requested an Informal Report of the inventory of parks by type of facility and amount of investment we are putting into each facility. Council Member Beck requested an Informal Report to get a better understanding of the Fort Worth Nature Center, how the fees are structured; and what it costs to operate the Center annually. Council Member Beck requested an Informal Report on street striping update; status of where we are and if the material is holding up. Council Member Beck requested an Informal Report update on the Entertainment District Study. Council Member Beck requested an Informal Report regarding performing background checks on employees who interact with children. Council Member Beck requested an Informal Report update on software that helps the City analyze the cost of development and the return of investment. Council Member Beck requested an Informal Report update on Economic Development Agreements reflecting if developers receive funding from the City, they cannot choose to accept the housing vouchers for the homeless. Council Member Beck requested a presentation on what is the big water planning for the future as major developments to the west and north; what is being done to ensure that there is safe drinking water; ability to put out any potential fires. Mayor Pro tem Bivens requested a follow-up on the relationship between the School Resource Police Officers (SROs) and Neighborhood Police Officers; responsibility of SROs once children leave schools. Council Member Martinez requested an IR a plan to reduce the shooting of firearms within the City limits. Council Member Nettles requested an IR with information on mobile Police towers; how many are on hand and where they are deployed in the City.
