AT(A,
vo;?p- To the Mayor and Members of the City Council
c3i 0 NOVEMBER 1, 1994
Subject:
18 7 3 CURRENT STATUS OF THE HUMAN RELATIONS
COMMISSION
Since the creation of Fort Worth Human Relations Commission (FWHRC) in
1964, the number of Commissioners comprising the FWHRC had remained at
twenty-one (21). Due to the inherent attendance, administrative and
logistical problems associated with the maintenance of a "board" of that size,
a recommendation to reduce the size of the Commission was presented to the
Council's Inter and Intra Governmental Affairs Committee in June, 1994.
At its June 21, 1994 meeting, the City Council voted to reduce the size of the
FWHRC from twenty-one (21) members to eleven (11) members. The
effective date of such reduction was to be October 1, 1994.
The Commission currently consists of 13 members. Four members terms
expired as of October 1, 1994 and currently have not been reappointed. It is
anticipated that through a normal course of action the Commission will be at
its established level by the end of the calendar year. At its meeting of
October 4, 1994 the City Council's Inter and Intra Governmental Affairs
Committee agreed to let normal attrition bring the number of Commissioners
down to eleven (11) without taking any direct action on the matter.
Should any City Council Member disagree with this approach, please let me
know.
