AN ORDINANCE INCREASING ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND
APPROPRIATIONS IN THE SPECIAL TRUST FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF
$1,300.00 FROM AVAILABLE FUNDS FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING FIRE
SAFETY EDUCATION ACTIVITIES, MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE
OF PRIOR ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for Fiscal Year 2002-
2003 in the Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased estimated receipts and
appropriations in the Special Trust Fund in the amount of $1,300.00 from available funds for the
purpose of funding fire safety education activities.
SECTION 2.
That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid,
inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or
judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this
ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain, in full force and effect.
SECTION 3.
That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 15184 and all other ordinances and
appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance
are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said
conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed.
SECTION 4.
This ordinance shall take effect upon adoption.

SUBJECT ACCEPT MONETARY DONATIONS AND AUTHORIZE USE OF THE FUNDS BY THE
FIRE SAFETY EDUCATION TRUST
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council:
1. Accept a monetary donation in the amount of $1,000 from the Wal-Mart Foundation and a donation in the
amount of $300 from the Fort Worth Chapter of Credit Unions C/O Member Preferred FCU; and
2. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the
Special Trust Fund by $1,300 from available funds.
DISCUSSION:
In January 2003, the Fire Safety Education Trust received donations in the amount of $1,000 from the
Wal-Mart Foundation and $300 from the Fort Worth Chapter of Credit Unions C/O Member Preferred.
FCU. The Fire Safety Education Trust is used to support the Fire. Safety House and the Learn Not to
Burn® curriculum that is taught in local elementary schools.
The primary goal of these programs is to teach children and/or adults how to test the door for heat, when to
crawl out of a room, and the importance of having two defined exit routes in the event of a fire.. Also taught is
the .importance of sufficient smoke alarms and. their placement in homes, developing and adhering to a
schedule for battery replacement, basic kitchen safety, and how to call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency.
Funds from this trust will be used to replenish or purchase, items such as:
• Clown makeup, .wigs,. props and sound equipment; and
• .Fire Safety House supplies and minor repairs; and
• Laptops and PowerPoint projectors for presentations;. and
• Display boards for large meetings; and
• Items. needed to support smoke alarm drives (screw drivers, step ladders, etc.).
FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION:
The Finance Director certifies that upon acceptance 'of the above recommendations and adoption of the
attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, of
the Special Trust, Fund. The Fire Department will be responsible for the collection and deposit of the.funds.
