1873 Subject: Timetable for Assignment of Second Fire Company at Fire Station
35 (Alliance Airport)
During deliberations for the FY 1996-97 budget City Council approved funds to be included in
the Fire Department budget for a second fire company to be assigned to Station 35 (Alliance
Airport). Funds were included for the training of nine firefighters and 12 months of salaries.
Due to the fact that the trainees would not graduate from the Training Academy until at least the
second quarter of the fiscal year , half of the salary funds were budgeted as salary savings.
Therefore salaries are budgeted to begin April 1, 1997 for the Alliance positions.
There is an eligibility list in effect now for hiring fire trainees. The Fire Department will begin
the hiring process for a class of firefighters, including the nine for the Alliance project, on
December 16, 1996. Training will begin on January 6, 1997, with the class graduating at the end
of June 1997. The new fire company would be assigned at that time.
