HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 6083-04-2025A Resolution No. 6083-04.2025 SUPPORTING THE RENOVATION AND EXPANSION OF THE NATIONAL COWGIRL MUSEUM AND HALL OF FAME TO PRESERVE AND PROMOTE FORT WORTH'S DIVERSE HISTORY AND CULTURE WHEREAS world -class museums contribute significantly to the City of Fort Worth's community identity and economic vitality; and WHEREAS established in 1974 in Hereford, Texas, the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame ("Cowgirl Museum") honors and celebrates women, past and present, whose lives exemplify the courage, resilience, and independence that helped shape the West, and fosters an appreciation of the ideals and spirit of self-reliance they inspire; and WHEREAS the Cowgirl Museum moved to Fort Worth,, Texas, in 1994; and WHEREAS in 2001, the Cowgirl Museum entered into a fifty-year lease with the City of Fort Worth ("City") for its current location, at 1720 Gendry Street, within the Will Rogers Memorial Complex in the heart of the City's Cultural District; and WHEREAS the Cowgirl Museum is currently undergoing arenovation and expansion project, known as the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame Expansion (the "Project"); and WHEREAS to facilitate the Project, the City Council approved the execution of a Fourth Amendment to the Lease with the Cowgirl Museum on April 8, 2025, to expand the museum's leased footprint; and WHEREAS in addition to increasing tourism and educational opportunities, museums and facilities benefit the public by offering opportunities to explore examples of extraordinary courage and the pioneer spirit; and WHEREAS the City seeks to leverage its existing cultural resources by supporting the development and expansion of high -quality museums that preserve and promote the City's diverse history and culture; and WHEREAS the City supports the Project and the expansion of the Cowgirl Museum; and WHEREAS the City may contribute up to Six Million, Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($6,500,000.00) to support the Project, if and when such funds become available. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS; Section 1. The City Council supports the renovation and expansion of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame and is considering the funding of up to Six Million, Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($6,500,000.00) for the capital costs associated with the Project, subject to the following conditions: a. The availability of sufficient Community Partnership Funds to the City; b. The total City contribution to the Project shall not exceed $6.5 million; c. The City shall not contribute its share of Project costs unless and until the Cowgirl Museum first provides a letter from the Cowgirl Museum's financial institution confirming funds -on -hand in an amount no less than two-thirds of the Project's planned construction costs, exclusive of the City's funding, which is intended to be provided as the "last dollars in;" and d. The provision of City funds shall require: i. approval by the City Council through a Mayor and Council Communication; and ii. A finding by the City Council of the specific public purposes the Project will serve. Section 2. That this resolution shall take effect immediate'ly from and after its passage in accordance with the provisions of the Charter of the City of Fort Worth, and is accordingly so resolved.
