'873 NONPROFIT CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP
In keeping with the City's goal of enhancing the capacity of neighborhood
nonprofit organizations, the Department of Housing and the Department of
Planning and Growth Management are sponsoring a workshop for
neighborhood and other nonprofit organizations desiring to become a
Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO). The workshop is
scheduled for Thursday, July 25, 1996 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Iris
Room of the Botanic Garden Center.
As a recipient of HOME program funds from the Department of Housing and
Urban Development, the City of Fort Worth is required to allocate a
minimum of 15% of its HOME funds to CHDO's for housing services and/or
projects. The City may also allocate up to 5% of its HOME funds for CHDO
operating expenses. The 1996 HOME grant is $2,198,700. In April of this
year the City Council awarded a total of $728,895 from 1994 and 1995
HOME funds to eight CHDO's.
The agenda for the workshop will include such items as:
♦ Board training and development
♦ Business plan development
♦ Financial management system development
♦ Grantsmanship
♦ Qualifying and remaining a 501(c) (3)
This should prove to be a very informative session for all attendees. Staff
invites you to come by at anytime during the course of the workshop to share
your expertise or learn more about Community Housing Development
Organizations.
