At that time, three (3) options were presented to the City Council A. Amending the current grant proposal under consideration by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to use a different site and accept the overage of land acquisition costs. B. Amending the current grant proposal using a different site and reducing the amount of acreage to meet the proposed acquisition cost. C. This option included the possibility of purchasing the proposed site, placing the land in a trust for future grant matching purposes. Staff recommended that option "C" be pursued. The City Council directed that the current grant proposal be withdrawn and that a meeting be convened with residents in City Council District 6 to solicit input on the most desired site. On June 17, 1996, a meeting was held involving various homeowner associations and athletic association representatives in City Council District 6 and the southwest portion of the City, respectively. At this meeting, a majority of those present expressed their desire that the Southwest Community Park site be acquired in the general area of South Hulen Road and Risinger Road.
