*za//* Subject: CUSTOM STREET NAME SIGNS
1873
When custom street name signs were installed in the Texas Christian University area, the City
Council requested a policy to be used whenever custom street name signs were installed. The
City's existing Street Name Sign Policy addresses public and private street name signs and
financial arrangements but did not include a provision for"special" or custom street name signs.
Staff recommends a Custom Street Name Sign policy which would permit installation of signs
of one of two types.
Non-residential areas of the city may request custom street name signs of varying colors and/or
designs. Signs within each area shall be uniform in color and design. Approved areas are only
in and around a college campus, the central business district, or designated historical or cultural
non-residential district in the City.
Residential custom street name signs will be similar to the street name signs currently in place,
however,a neighborhood logo would be added. The signs would remain in the standard green and
white colors.
In either case, the custom street name signs must be requested by authorized representatives of
the area. The logo, color and area of installation must be approved by the Transportation and
Public Works Director.
The City will not begin work on the custom street name signs until the cost of materials and labor
for set up, fabrication and installation of the street signs has been received. The City will fabricate
and install all custom street name signs. The City of Fort Worth will be responsible for future
replacement and maintenance of the custom street name signs. All custom street name signs paid
for by the group or organization requesting such shall be, and shall remain, the property of the
City.
If Council concurs, an M&C will be prepared to reflect this change in policy.
