THE GOLDEN LASSO ACCREDITATION PROGRAM
FOR RESTAURANTS AND BARS IN ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICTS
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth is the fastest growing major City in the United States with a
population of approximately one million residents and continuing to grow at a rate of about 20,000 new residents
annually; and
WHEREAS, the City has seen a steady increase in visitors to Fort Worth with current estimates in excess
of ten million annually: and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth with its growing population and influx of visitors has embraced the
development and expansion of its restaurants, bars, and similar entertainment venues as they assimilated into
entertainment districts in the Fort Worth Stockyards, the Near Southside, Downtown, the Seventh Street Corridor,
the Cultural District and other locations across the City; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth is committed to the highest standards of public safety throughout the
City and has created an Entertainment District Steering Committee specifically for additional measures to ensure
a safe and enjoyable nightlife experience for all visitors and residents; and
WHEREAS, through the work and recommendations of the Entertainment Steering Committee, the
Golden Lasso Accreditation Program has been developed to provide a free and voluntary certification process to
assist bars, restaurants and similar venues in reviewing, confirming, and enhancing safety at their establishments
for their patrons and employees; and
WHEREAS, the Golden Lasso Accreditation empowers establishments to formalize their practices
through policy and employee training; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth wishes to encourage and support business establishments who
provide entertainment to visitors and guests to participate in the Golden Lasso Program by informing the public
of all venues who have invested the extra effort time and commitment into accrediting their establishments to
ensure a safe and memorable experience for their patrons; and
WHEREAS, this program allows establishments to utilize a "Safety -Branded Entertainment" logo to
identify their successful annual accredited status to enhance patrons' confidence and peace of mind while
deciding where to go for a night out while maintaining a focus on safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FORT WORTH, TEXAS THAT:
1. The Golden Lasso Accreditation Program is intended to promote safety in the
City's Entertainment Districts and provide a resource for the City's residents and
visitors by identifying safety -accredited establishments; and
2. Participation by a bar, restaurant, or similar establishment in the Golden Lasso
Program is 100% voluntary and will have no cost imposed by the City to
participating establishments; and
3. The Golden Lasso Program is not intended to be used in a punitive way now nor in
the future in any manner to create
• Specific policies affecting Zoning;
• Future restrictions in permitting
• Additional Code Enforcement requirements
• Excessive requirements beyond those required by current State or Federal Law;
and
4. The City anticipates that participants may benefit from the City's efforts, in
coordination with Visit Fort Worth, to inform visitors and the general public of all
participating businesses in the Golden Lasso Program for their personal information
when considering their choices for nightlife and entertainment in the City of Fort Worth;
and
5. Participation in this program shall be available to bars, restaurants and similar venues
across the City and shall not be restricted to the specific Districts identified herein, as
public safety remains one ofthe City's highest priorities citywide.
This resolution shall be effective from and after its passage by the City Council.
