Subject: LANCASTER BRIDGE REHABILITATION
ion
The City of Fort Worth is working in cooperation with the Texas Department of
Transportation to rehabilitate the decking on the Lancaster Bridge as part of the Federal
Aid Bridge Replacement Program.
On March 3, 1998, M&C C-16657, Council approved the closure of Lancaster Avenue
Bridge to vehicular and pedestrian traffic during construction to facilitate the complete
removal and replacement of the concrete decking.
On August 11, 1998, Lancaster Bridge was closed to traffic and construction began. The
opening of the bridge to traffic is planned for January 15, 1999 in order to provide
optimum access to the Will Rogers facilities during the Fort Worth Stock Show.
At this time, all of the old bridge decking has been removed and 55% of the decking has
been replaced with new concrete. I am pleased to report that the project is slightly ahead
of schedule and staff believes that the January 15, 1999 deadline will be met.
