Subject:
gas CALL FOR STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT
PROJECTS
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has issued a statewide call for projects that enhance
transportation services in roadway corridors. It is anticipated that TxDOT will have a "call for projects"
every two to three years. This program is funded through TEA 21. Local applicants are required to submit
their applications to the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) for the purpose of
approval, but not for project scoring and ranking, prior to submitting the projects to TxDOT. The deadline
for the submission of projects to NCTCOG is July 16, 1999. The deadline for the City's submission of the
projects to TxDOT is August 9, 1999. The Texas Transportation Commission anticipates meeting in late
August to select STEP projects and is scheduled to select and announce the selected projects under the
STEP Program.
Any submitted project that is subsequently approved by the Texas Transportation Commission will require a
minimum of 20% local participation. TxDOT requires that all projects be nominated by public agencies,
such as a municipality,a transit authority, or other public jurisdiction.
Transportation and Public Works has worked with Planning and Parks and Community Services
Departments to develop the enhancement projects for City Council consideration. City Departments have
proposed seven projects for the current STEP call for projects: North Main Street; Berry Street; W Rosedale
from Forest Park to S Main;West Rosedale from S. Main to IH 35 W; Vickery Blvd. from Henderson Street
to Main Street, a hike and bicycle trail from the Mercado Parking Lot to Marine Creek Park north of 23rd
Street, and a streetscape and pedestrian facilities project on 9th Street from Main Street to Jones Street. Two
projects, E Rosedale from IH 35 to US 287 and E. Rosedale from Bishop Street to Miller Street have been
selected for a future STEP call for projects. These project calls are expected every three years.
Two community-based projects have also been proposed. The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce has
proposed its Heritage(interpretive and historic) Signage Project for downtown. The owners of the Santa Fe
Depot have proposed a renovation application for the historic depot. These sponsors will be responsible for
providing the local match for their projects.
The attached lis i included for your information. It will be brought back as an M&C for City Council
onsider on.
