Of this number, approximately 500 million pieces are not in use due to breakage, obsolescence, or need. Several of these computers are located in the homes of the citizens of Fort Worth. Due to the heavy metal (mercury, lead, etc.) content of these hardware components (monitors, CPUs, etc.), improper disposal presents a risk of polluting our water, air, and landfills. On Saturday May 27, 2000, the City of Fort Worth in conjunction with Resources Concepts, a computer refurbishing agency and environmental friendly disposal, firm, will be sponsoring a computer and small appliance round-up day for the Citizens of Fort Worth. Between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., old and/or broken computers, hair dryers, televisions, toasters, vacuums, microwaves, cell phones and other small appliances will be accepted at the City of Fort Worth's Environmental Collection Center, 6400 Bridge Street. Resource Concepts will have staff and equipment onsite to package and safely transport the collected material to their facility in Carrollton, TX. Cell Phones will be segregated and donated to Motorola to benefit domestic abuse victims. This event is a test of the collection and shipment system for potential inclusion into the City of Fort Worth's nationally recognized Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program. Success during this collection will allow the City to include these materials into its full collection stream. Bob Terrell City Manager I rl ISSUED BY THE CITY MANAGER FORT WORTH, TEXAS
