HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 8251 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 8251 May 23, 2000 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council Page I of 2 SUBJECT: PARK POLICY SPECIAL TASK FORCE RECOMMENDATIONS On April 18, 2000 the City Council adopted M&C G-12893, which authorized the approval of revisions to the Park Dedication Policy entitled "Neighborhood and Community Park Dedication Policy". In the motion to adopt the revised policy, the City Council instructed that the Parks and Community Services Department (PACSD) obtain recommendations from the Plan Commission and Parks and Community Services Advisory Board (PACSAB) for potential appointments to a Park Policy Special Task Force. The purpose of the Task Force is to review the newly adopted "Neighborhood and Community Park Dedication Policy" and make recommendations for any improvement. Informal Report No. 8242 outlined a Task Force comprised of nine (9) members. The I.R. called for the PACSAB to recommend potential Task Force members from park interest groups, the Plan*Commission recommend potential members from the development community, and the City Council appoint all nine members including three (3) members at-large. In their work session on March 23, 2000, the Plan Commission recommended the following candidates for the Task Force. The first four (4) candidates were recommended in priority order: 1. Byron DeSousa, Plan Commission Member 2. Jirn. Dunaway, Dunaway Associates 3. Angie Waddle or Fred Balda, Hillwood Development 4. Gary Sheffield, Greater Fort Worth Builders Association Other candidates suggested by the Plan Commission in no prioritized order include: Gordon Swift, Wendy Van, David Newell, Ed Childress, James Toal and Randy Gideon. At the May 16, 2000 PACSAB meeting, the Board recommended the following candidates for the Task Force. The candidates are listed in priority order: 1. David Vasquez, PACSAB Chair 2. Louise Appleman, Relocation Consultant 3. Madelyn Rice Gibbs, President- Candleridge Homeowners Association 4. Urbin McKever, Streams and Valleys 5. W.G. Wiley, Former PASCAB Member On April 18, 2000, the City Council's motion directed that the Task Force include air nth the Greater Fort Worth Association of Realtors, Inc. The PACSD proposes the following tentative meeting schedule: Task Force meetings (3) wil-1 be held in June and July. The Park Board will review Task Force recommendations on August 15, 2000, followed by a Plan Commission review of the recommendations on August 23, 2000. Staff will present the Task Force recommendations along with recommendations from the Park Board and Plan Commission to the City Council on September 19, 2000.
