HomeMy WebLinkAboutIR 8293 INFORMAL REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 8293 December 5, 2000 To the Mayor and Members of the City Council JL r 0- - SUBJECT: North Main Streetscape Project between the Tarrant County Courthouse and the historic stockyards area On October 3, 2000 the City Council approved an amendment to the City's contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., for additional design services for the North Main Streetscape Project between the Tarrant County Courthouse and the historic stockyards area. The additional design services include finalization of design concepts and preparation of construction documents for the three pilot project areas on North Main, which were identified in Phase I. The three pilot project areas to be addressed are: • Paddock Gateway (Viaduct to 4th Street) • Mercado Avenue (Northside Drive to 22'd Street) • Stockyards Gateway (25th Street to 27`h Street). Preliminary Design Development is complete. As part of the development, Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., has delivered to the City topographic surveys, preliminary layouts, a proposed plant list, and budget estimates. The North Main Oversight Committee endorsed the conceptual designs for the three pilot projects at their November meeting. Final Design development will occur during the months of November and December. A public meeting will be scheduled in January 2001 for the purpose of receiving public comment on the three pilot project designs. City Council will be presented with the designs for the three pilot projects in January and asked for approval to proceed to the construction phase. Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., will prepare construction documents and participate in the bidding process and construction administration. The construction documents are scheduled for completion in February 2001. Bidding and contract negotiations will follow and are scheduled for completion in April 2001. However, the Texas Department of Transportation must approve the construction documents before the bidding process can begin. Actual construction is scheduled to begin in May 2001 and is scheduled for completion in approximately eight months or by January 2002. Funding for the North Main project includes$1,560,000 from the 1998 CIP, $2,232,960 from the Statewide Transportation Enhancement Program, and $400,000 from the Transportation and Community and System Preservation Pro am, for a total of$4,192,960.
