SUBJECT: MEDSTAR SUBSIDY
The FY2003-04 adopted budget, approved at the City Council Meeting September 9, 2003,
continues payment to the Metropolitan Ambulance Authority (MedStar) at the same amount as
included in FY2002-03 of $1,311,021. This amount for FY2003-04 represents a $2.27 per capita
subsidy payment for the residents of Fort Worth based on a population of 577,500. This now
raises the current transport fee approximately $167 from $568 to $735.
Although the transport fee will increase, Fort Worth residents continue to have the option of
entering into a membership with MedStar for $55 per year. The membership covers the entire
household, provides for unlimited emergency transports at no costs and alternative transportation
services at a 20 percent discount. The membership can minimize the increased transport fee if a
resident chooses this alternative.
