Projects for 2004 Bond Projects
This report is to make Council aware of public art efforts that are underway. The City is moving
forward with new projects from the 2004 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) that would benefit
from public art or design enhancements. In order to achieve maximum positive benefits from the
Fort Worth Public Art Program and to ensure that opportunities for artist involvement in these
projects are not lost, artists must be selected as soon as possible. Thus, on April 7, 2004, the Fort
Worth Art Commission approved project goals and artist selection processes for two new capital
projects:
1) Park Design Enhancements - Various Existing Parks Facilities included in 2004 CIP
(Proposition 2, Citywide)
Scope: A Design Enhancement Team-in-Residence at the Parks and Community
Services Department develops a full range of sites, materials, thematic approaches,
and community participation options in collaboration with the in-house design staff,
with input from the community, for functional elements of the park system (e.g.
benches, shade structures, signage, etc.). The final product would be a "catalogue" of
project enhancement options from which neighborhoods may chose. The Design
Enhancement Team may implement initial projects and would also recommend a pre-
qualified list of local artists for future projects.
Artist Selection: RFQ/Local artist with design team and community-based
experience who will select 2 additional team members from Fort Worth Public Art
Artist Registry.
2) Fire Station #8 —West Rosedale and 12th Street (Proposition 4, Council District 9):
Scope: Commissioning of a public artwork to be located in/on the tower or front lawn
that captures the essence of firefighting and/or the history of Fire Station 8.
Artist Selection: RFP/ Local artists

Projects for 2004 Bond Projects
On September 30, 2003, the City Council approved M&C G-14087, thereby adopting the Fort Worth
Public Art Master Plan, which recommended that, once voters approved the 2004 GIP, a long-range
plan be developed by the Public Art Director, working with the City Council, City staff, the Fort
Worth Art Commission and the community. While the adopted Long-Range Public Art Plan will
serve to guide the Public Art Program's annual work plans, it may be amended, as needed, to meet
changing circumstances.
Following successful passage of the 2004 CIP on 'February 7, 2004 the Public Art Director
developed a draft long-range plan which was endorsed by the Fort Worth Art Commission and
provided to Council on June 22, 2004, as an Informal Report. The Fort Worth Art Commission is
seeking Council and public input on the draft plan this summer, with the goal of recommending the
final Long-Range Public Art Plan to Council for approval in September 2004. In the meantime,
Informal Reports will be forwarded to Council regarding any specific projects that are being initiated
in order to parallel the City's approved CIP Implementation Schedule.
