SUBJECT: TXDOT'S BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT ON
fay% WEATHERFORD STREET (SPUR 347)
On Wednesday, August 25, 2004, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin
construction on the Weatherford Street bridge (Spur 347) over southbound 1-35W. This
construction will replace the bridge deck and pavement. The bridge serves Weatherford Street
traffic from downtown Fort Worth to northbound SH 121. The bridge also serves traffic on the
ramp from 1-35W southbound to SH 121 northbound.
TxDOT will replace the deck in phases to maintain two (2) traffic lanes on the bridge. The ramp
from southbound 1-35W to northbound SH 121 will be closed during construction. This ramp
closure will eliminate traffic conflicts at the bridge and enhance safety for construction workers
and the motoring public.
Motorists who -travel from southbound IH 35 to SH 121 will be encouraged to use the marked
detour that will be established on Belknap and Weatherford Streets. If you need additional
information please contact Randy Burkett, City Traffic Engineer at 817/ 392-8774.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aug. 23, 2004
TxDOT to replace bridge deck on Spur 347
FORT WORTH—Construction is scheduled to begin this week to replace the deck
on the Spur 347 bridge over I-35W that links Weatherford Street to SH 121 northbound in
downtown Fort Worth. The Texas Department of Transportation awarded the project to the
Orval Hall Excavating Company of Fort Worth for$792,000.
During construction, the northbound lanes of Spur 347 will be reduced to two lanes
from Hampton Street to 1-35W until the project's completion in spring 2005.The ramp from
1-35W southbound to SH 121 northbound will also be closed during this time.
"In order to maintain traffic on the bridge during construction, we will build the
bridge deck in two parts," said North Tarrant County Area Engineer Mark Schluter. "Traffic
should continue to flow well during non-peak times, but drivers may want to seek alternate
routes especially during evening rush hour."During these high traffic times, drivers are
encouraged to use Spur 280 from 5th and 7th Streets.
