DISCUSSION: The purpose of this Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to appropriate grant funds received for the No Kid Hungry Campaign (Campaign) of Share Our Strength and the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger. Since the mid-1980s, the non-profit Share Our Strength (SOS) has been working to solve problems of hunger and poverty in the United States and around the world, launching the "No Kid Hungry Campaign" in 2010. In 2022, the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger (Alliance) was launched to leverage the insights and connections of local leaders in coordinating with SOS and the Campaign. Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker was selected to serve as the 2025 Chair of the Alliance. In connection with assuming that position, Fort Worth and Mayor Parker were offered a $15,000.00 grant to support the Mayor's capacity and maximize her impact. In accordance with the delegated authority under Section 2-9, the grant agreement was executed in late 2024, and the funds were received. Adoption of this M&C will appropriate those funds so that they may be expended toward the goal of ending childhood hunger in the City of Fort Worth. The Mayor's Office has identified the Fort Worth Independent School District as the subrecipient for these grant funds. The selected grantee will utilize the dollars to advance the goal of eradicating childhood hunger in the City by expanding the in -school market at O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth. A Form 1295 is not required because: This M&C does not request approval of a contract with a business entity. FISCAL INFORMATION / CERTIFICATION: The Director of Finance certifies that upon approval of the above recommendation and adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance, funds will be available in the current operating budget, as appropriated, in the Grants Operating Other Fund. The Mayor's Office (and Financial Management Services) will be responsible for the collection and deposit of funds due to the City. Prior to an expenditure being incurred, the Mayor's Office has the responsibility to validate the availability of funds. This is an advance grant.
