DISCUSSION: The Fire Department has requested the referenced street name change from Doc Mitchell Street to Petty Place to correct the street file system ,and thereby improve the Fire Department dispatching system. Doc Mitchell Street is toughly 300 feet long. In 1997, Texas Motor Speedway was developed and the extension of Doc Mitchell Street was named Petty Place. The combination of Doc Mitchell Street and Petty Place is the main entrance from FM156 to the Speedway complex. Since, there is no intersection or change of direction at the point where Doc Mitchell Street becomes Petty Place; emergency dispatch errors are possible. This action would eliminate this situation. Reviewing City departments, public utility companies and private property owners have raised no objections to this request as of June 19, 2003. Pursuant to state statute, a public hearing must precede the ordinance adopting the proposed street name change. Notice of this scheduled public hearing was mailed the week of June 2, 2003, to property owners within 300 feet of the subject street. Tax records indicate there are four tracts adjacent to the existing Doc Mitchell Street. A copy of the notice is attached as an exhibit. This property is located n COUNCIL DISTRICT 2. FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION: The Finance Director certifies that this action will have no material effect on City funds.
