HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 6170-09-2025A Resolution N O. 6170-09-2025 AUTHORIZING THE HONORARY DESIGNATION FOR TODD MICHAEL "LEON" BRIDGES ALONG A PORTION OF S CALHOUN STREET BORDERED BY EAST VICKERY BOULEVARD AND EAST BROADWAY AVENUE. WHEREAS, The Fort Worth City Council has a policy for honoring individuals who have made a longstanding positive impact to the city and its residents; and WHEREAS, Leon Bridges was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 13, 1989 but was raised in Fort Worth and graduated from Fort Worth Crowley High School; and WHEREAS, Leon Bridges is one of the most celebrated creative voices from Fort Worth, due to his contributions to music, film, and television, having been nominated four times in his career to date and winning a Grammy Award in 2019; and WHEREAS, Leon Bridges recorded his debut album, Coming Home, at Niles City Sound on S. Calhoun Street in Fort Worth's Near Southside; and WHEREAS, Leon Bridges has elevated recognition for the City of Fort Worth in many ways including in songs, through charities such as The Big Good, and nurturing local musicians and artists drawing on the city's creative energy and generous spirit; and WHEREAS, on November 15, 2024, the City established November 15 as "Leon Bridges Day" by proclamation read and presented by Mayor Parker during Leon Bridges' sold out concert at Dickies Arena; and WHEREAS, in November, 2024, the City temporarily renamed a portion of Harley Avenue between Montgomery Street and Trail Drive to "Leon Bridges Way"; and WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth wishes to permanently recognize the legacy of Leon Bridges and his contributions to the music and film industries and his advocacy for musicians across many genres by designating a portion of S. Calhoun Street between its intersections with E Vickery Boulevard and E Broadway Avenue in his honor by placing sign toppers at these intersections and within the corridor as depicted on the attached map. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, THAT: In recognition of the many contributions to the City of Fort Worth by Leon Bridges, sign toppers shall be placed at the intersections of E. Vickery Boulevard and S. Calhoun Street, E. Daggett Avenue and S. Calhoun Street, and E. Broadway Avenue and S. Calhoun Street in his honor. Adopted this 30th day of September 2025.
