A RESOLUTION NOMINATING THE FORT WORTH POWER AND LIGHT
POWER PLANT/TXU NORTH MAIN PLANT (A.K.A. TEXAS ELECTRIC
SERVICE COMPANY NORTH MAIN PLANT/TEXAS UTILITIES) (THE
"PROPERTY") LOCATED AT 411 N. MAIN STREET FOR DESIGNATION AS
A HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT ENDANGERED LANDMARK ("HSE"); DIRECTING
THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION OFFICER ("HPO") TO SUBMIT A
COMPLETE APPLICATION TO THE HISTORIC AND CULTURAL
LANDMARKS COMMISSION ("HCLC") FOR CONSIDERATION
WHEREAS, as a matter of public policy, the identification, protection, enhancement, and
perpetuation of landmarks or districts of historical, cultural, architectural, or archeological significance
are necessary to safeguard and promote the economic, cultural, educational, and general welfare of the
public; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fort Worth's ("City s") Historic Preservation Ordinance authorizes the
City Council to adopt a resolution directing the Historic Preservation Officer ("HPO") to submit a
complete application to the Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission ("HCLC") for designation of
an eligible property as a Highly Significant Endangered ("HSE") landmark; and
WHEREAS, the Fort Worth Power and Light Power Plant/TXU North Main Plant (a.k.a. Texas
Electric Service Company North Main Plant/Texas Utilities) (the "Property") is located at 411 N. Main
Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102; and
WHEREAS, the Property was constructed between 1911-1913 by the Cleveland Construction
Company in the Beaux Arts style with additions in 1913 and 1922; and
WHEREAS, the Property is a lasting example of an important architectural type and an example
of the early 20t" century industrial complex that followed the national City Beautiful movement; and
WHEREAS, the Property retains its importance and significance at the local level for its
association with electrical power innovation across Fort Worth for over 90 years; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to nominate the Fort Worth Power and Light Power
Plant/TXU North Main Plant (a.k.a. Texas Electric Service Company North Main Plant/Texas Utilities)
located at 411 N. Main Street as an HSE Landmark to further effectuate the protections necessary for the
long-term preservation of the property as a valuable and irreplaceable historic asset to the City of Fort
Worth and the nation as a whole; and

WHEREAS, as part of the designation process, the City of Fort Worth's Historic Preservation
Ordinance mandates certain interim controls ("Interim Controls") to protect the property during the
nomination process from alteration, demolition, relocation, restoration, rehabilitation, additions, and the
like; and
WHEREAS, effective upon the date the HPO mails notice of the nomination of a property for
historic designation, the property being nominated is subject to the Interim Controls and the Certificate of
Appropriateness requirements contained in the Historic Preservation Ordinance until the expiration of 180
days or the proposed historic designation is denied, whichever is sooner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT
WORTH, TEXAS, THAT:
The City Council hereby:
1. Nominates the Fort Worth Power and Light Power Plant/TXU North Main Plant (a.k.a. Texas
Electric Service Company North Main Plant/Texas Utilities), located at 411 North Main
Street and depicted in Exhibit A, for designation as a Highly Significant Endangered
Landmark; and
2. Directs the Historic Preservation Officer to submit such nomination to the Historic and Cultural
Landmarks Commission for consideration.
