Henry — Biography
Henry began his service to the City of Fort Worth in 2011, when he was first encountered as a stray and
brought to Fort Worth Animal Care & Control in critical condition. At that time, staff made a deliberate
decision that Henry would represent a new standard for animal welfare in the City. After being nursed
back to health, Henry was adopted by the City of Fort Worth and formally designated as its official K-9
Ambassador.
Henry served the City in this role for twelve years. Throughout his service, he represented Fort Worth at
public events, schools, emergency operations, and community engagements. He frequently accompanied
City leadership, including the Mayor and City Council, and was a familiar presence in the Emergency
Operations Center during emergency and disaster response efforts. Through these activities, Henry
helped strengthen public trust and engagement with Fort Worth Animal Care & Control and the City's
animal welfare initiatives.
Henry played a significant role in advancing community and voter support for shelter bond initiatives
and was instrumental in inspiring millions of dollars in private and in -kind donations. His service
contributed directly to the construction of the North Animal Campus and the development of a first -of -
its -kind Medical Treatment Ward to provide lifesaving care for shelter animals. These efforts helped
establish Fort Worth as a recognized national leader in animal welfare outcomes.
Henry retired from City service in 2024 and passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of sixteen.
His legacy is reflected in the lasting improvements to animal care services in Fort Worth and the positive
impact his service had on the community.
