In accordance with Ordinance Number 21707-03-2015, adopted March 23, 2015, the Pedestrian and
Bicycle Advisory Commission (PABAC) is taslced to review and comment on the City's annual operating
budget and capital improvement program for pedestrian and bicycle improvements to meet the needs of the
city. Recommendations made by the Commission will be presented to the City Manager and the City
Council for consideration.
At its meeting May 9, 2019, the members of PABAC voted unanimously to recommend ihat the City
Council consider allocating $300,400 in the FY2020 budget for the maintenance of our existing bicycle and
pedestrian infrastructure, as well as the installation of new pavement markings and signage to increase the
safety and comfort of persons wallcing and bicycling in Fort Worth. PABAC members also felt that this
small allocation would be an affordable contribution to begin implementing the recently adopted Active
Transportation Plan.

recommendation.

At the May y`�', 2019 Pedestrian and Bicycle Advisory CoYnmissio�i (PABAC) ineeting, the
members voted unanimotisly on a FY2020 budget 1`ecominendation of $300,400.for the
nlaintenance of our eYisting bicycle and pedestrian infrastructuie and installation of new
facilities,
As a cormnission, we strongly believe that the city has a responsibility to maintain the cunent
�edestrian and bicycle infrastructuie in a manner that inc�•eases the Iife of such. infiastructure
and prevents costly reconstiuciion in the �utura. We also believe the city niust impr�ve its
strategic focus on planni�lg for future improvements needed to provide safe passage foi
pedestriaiis, cyclists and those z�ith disabilziies in a cit,y that has become increasingly nlore
densely populated. Such considerations are a matter of public safety.
This bt�dget reconunendatiori closely aligns with a decision pacicage set forward. by
Transportation and Fublic Worlcs staff in the budget request process titled "Implementation
of Adopted Active Tx•ansportation Plan (ATP)." The Commission strongly believes these
recomniendatioiis, if implemented, v�Tould improve both inobility and the safety of our
citizens ��v 'le also responsibly in�intaining exisiing infrastructure.
