DISCUSSION:
The purpose of the Mayor and Council Communication (M&C) is to accept and appropriate a monetary
grant from the Meta Alice Keith Foundation to benefit the City's Community Tree Planting Program. The
Meta Alice Keith Bratten Foundation has offered a monetary grant in the amount of $60,935.00 to fund, for
an initial period of one year, the salary and benefits of a greenhouse attendant and the salary of a
scheduled temporary (or seasonal) maintenance worker, along with a 1025 gallon low profile water tank,
water costs, and equipment and supplies to plant and establish an additional 200 to 300 trees per year on
parkland throughout the City. This project will take place Citywide and work is anticipated to begin in
March of 2014 with the establishment of an overage for the funded greenhouse attendant position.
The Meta Alice Keith Bratten Foundation has announced their intention to continue funding to provide
water, temporary labor and associated supplies for one additional year, along with the full funding for the
greenhouse attendant, in which case the Parks and Community Services Department will establish a grant
funded authorized position beginning in Fiscal Year 2015.
At its February 26, 2014 meeting, the Parks and Community Services Advisory Board endorsed the
acceptance of this grant.
