Foremast Dairies, Inc., which owns or has under option of purchase all but one
of the adjoining lots, has requested abandonment of Calhoun Street, from East
Broadway Avenue ~auth to East Petersmith Street, and Stella Street from
Calhoun Street west to a point 30 feet east from Crawford Street, shown in
red on the attached map. Abandonment of the streets will permit future ex-
pansion of Foremost Dairies. Landers Mi11 Manufacturing Company, the owner
of the other adjoining lot has also agreed to the abandoning of the subject
streets.
Private Utility Companies, Public Works, Water, Traffic Engineering and
Planning Departments reviewed the request and do not object to the abandon-
ment, provided easements be reserved for the Water Department, Texas Electric
Service Company and Southwestern Be11 Telephone Company with fu11 rights to
operate and maintain the existing facilities in their present location until
such time as they are not longer needed. The Public Works Department also
requests that a turn-around be dedicated at the north end of Crawford Street
and that the City be relieved of the responsibility and expense of providing
storm drainage across this property. Foremost Dairies has agreed to the
dedication of a turn-around and has submitted a letter assuming responsibility
for drainage in the abandoned street area.
The City Plan Commission has reviewed the request and recommends adoption of
the ordinance that has been prepared abandoning the streets and reserving the
easements as requested, subject to replotting the property and dedication of
the turn-oraund as described.
