SUBJECT: UPDATE ON NOMINATION FOR NATIONAL REGISTER OF
rF HISTORIC PLACES FOR THE COLISEUM, PIONEER TOWER AND
AUDITORIUM AT THE WILL ROGERS MEMORIAL CENTER
The purpose of this Informal Report is to provide an update to the City Council regarding the
National Register of Historic Places nomination for the Will Rogers Memorial Center Coliseum,
Pioneer Tower and Auditorium.
The City retained the services of Arthur Weinman, AIA on November 15, 2013 (City Secretary
Contract No. 45117) to create and submit the National Register of Historic Places nomination for
the Will Rogers Memorial Center Coliseum, Auditorium and Tower located at 3401 West
Lancaster Avenue. Mr. Weinman has completed the survey, historical investigation and related
services and submitted the nomination to the Texas Historical Commission (THC) for review and
comment.
The process typically takes six to eight months for review by the THC. Pending approval, the
three buildings would be designated on the National Register of Historic Places. This national
historic designation may enhance the marketability of the facility for some events. A
communication plan will be implemented upon approval of the designation.
