HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 18605-05-2009ORDINANCE NO 18605-OS-2009 AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF ARCH ADAMS STREET FROM LANCASTER AVENUE TO WEST 7T" STREET TO `VAN CLIBURN WAY" MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF ALL OTHER ORDINANCES AFFECTING STREET NAMES, REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH, AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS SECTION 1. That the name of Arch Adams Street from its intersections with Lancaster Avenue to West 7~h Street; as more specifically described in Exhibit A attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, be and the same is hereby changed to `Van Cliburn Way" SECTION 2. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of all other ordinances affecting the names of streets m the city of Fort Worth except insofar as rt may be m conflict with the provisions of those ordinances, m which instance they are expressly repealed. SECTION 3 That this ordinance shall take effect upon adoption. No. 18605-05-2009 DATE Tuesday May 12 2009 REFERENCE NO PZ 2824 LOG NAME 060065030 SN-09-003 SUBJECT Adopt an Ordinance Changing the Name of a Portion of Arch Adams Street between Lancaster Avenue and West Seventh Street to Van Cliburn Way RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council adopt an ordinance changing the name of a Portion of Arch Adams Street between Lancaster Avenue to West Seventh Street to Van Cliburn Way DISCUSSION The City of Fort Worth has requested a street name change for Arch Adams Street from West Seventh Street to Lancaster Avenue as depicted on the attached map (Exhibit A) Resolution No 3253-09-2005 allows the City Council to name city facilities after living individuals in limited circumstances The individual must have made an extraordinary contribution for the betterment of all Fort Worth Van Cliburn's victory in the first International Tchaikovsky Competition held in Moscow at the height of the Cold War made him an instant American hero He has served as an ambassador of American culture and was instrumental in the raising of the iron curtain Mr Cliburn has made Fort Worth his home for many years and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition held here every four years brings world renown to the City 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the Van Cliburn Foundation Competition The City of Fort Worth submitted the request for a street name change in April 2009 The Fire Department supports this street name change request.
