1. Shortened Tenure for Laborer Merit Increa.es GENE - Agenda Pre- Council. Confere:icc
(IR #1285) 10/23/67
Council delayed discussion for one week bec.i,:.7 _
of absence of Councilman Hoover.
2. Ederville Road Opening and Paving at Oakland
Boulevard (IR #1286)
The City Manager outlined pos: ible alternative
courses of action for the improvement of Ederville
Road including 1) a grade separation allowing two-way
traffic on the extension as outlined in the CIP, 2)
a one-wav extension to carry traffic eastward, 3) a
one-way extension with a pos:,ible future basketweave
construction with no grade separation to provide two
way traffic or 4) a one-way extension with a possible
future bridge for separated grades in a two-way traf-
fic pattern.
Improvement of Wilson Road by the construction
of an underpass beneath the Turnpike was also dis-
cussed. This would be necessary to provide access to
the service road on the north of the Turnpike if the
Ederville Road extension were one-way. Mr. Kersnick
raised the objection that Ederville should be two-way
since the service road to the north is two-way. Mr.
Sarsgard countered with objections to the safety hazard
of basketweave construction necessary to provide a two-
way traific way.
Mr. Stovall questioned the cost of these alters-
tions and was informed by Mr. McMahan that the total
cost of a one-way extension and Wilson Road underpass
would be approximately $375,000. Total cost without
the underpass of a one-way extension was given as
approximately $175,000. Mr. Stovall also questioned
the sots rce of funds and was told that it :ass included
in the CIP. r nLU U
Mr. Dunham discussed the problems n , access, for of[itin RU
people living in th(. area - The proposed one-way ex- 4 r`7` er711R1
tension of } derville will provide no relief to Ir- ,tl L4 it1
bound traffic. A possible solution would be the .; iU
creation of another entrance unto the L-u nipike '!!r, i. iU il'
Sarsgard pointed out that the one-way proposed ex-
tension was needed at present and would still be
useful when the Tu m pike became free.
i
Mr. Graham requested action on the matter at this
meeting since the Turnpike Authority is scheduled to
meet on October 20. The Turnpike Authority, Mr. Graham
explained , must ratify the contract for right-of-way
sale which will include specifications allowing the pro-
posed one-way extension on a split grade two-way exten-
sion, but will not .allow a single grade two-way extensionr,
with a basketweave design. The Council determined to
request that the contract be ratified by the Authority
and to delay the design decision until a later meeting.
