Subject: 1999 Drinking Water Quality Report
Attached is a copy of the Water Department's 1999 Drinking Water Quality Report, which is a
requirement of 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act. Fort Worth and all retail water
suppliers with more that 25 connections are required to produce and distribute this report
annually beginning in 1999. This report is based on data collected in 1998.
The report will be mailed next week to everyone who receives a Fort Worth water bill. EPA rules
require we make a good faith effort to get the report to people who receive Fort Worth Water, but
do not get a water bill. Copies in both English and Spanish will be placed at the 14 Library and
the 19 Community Center locations. The Public Health Department will also have copies for
distribution. Contact is also made with apartment managers and nursing home facilities to see if
they will distribute the report to their residents, or place a sign regarding the report's availability.
The Water Department provides these signs.
The water quality information is also being posted on the Water Department's Web site in both
Spanish and English.
Federal law and an EPA rule dictate the chart's format and much of the content and wording for
low the report. Because some of the data and information may be confusing or difficult to understand,
the Water Department is planning four public meetings in late July and August to review the
report's content with interested citizens. These meetings are scheduled for:
Tuesday, July 20 Sycamore Community Center 6:30 p.m.
Thursday,July 22 Southwest Regional Library 7 p.m.
Thursday, August 5 East Regional Library 7 p.m.
Monday, August 9 Diamond Hill Jarvis Library 7 p.m.
The Water Department is also contacting each neighborhood association by mail to offer to speak
at one of its meetings about the report.
