WHEREAS, -The Dallas/Fort Worth Airport U.S. Customs facility was upgraded
four years ago to district office status; and,
WHEREAS, Duty collections at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport have grown from $57
million in 1980 to an estimated $90 million in 1984; and,
WHEREAS, U.S. Customs has proposed transferring this function to Houston;
and,
WHEREAS, The proposed transfer would have an adverse effect on international
business development; and,
WHEREAS, The Fort Worth City Council recommends opposition to the proposed
transfer;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH,
TEXAS

Section 1. That the Fort Worth City Council does hereby express
opposition to the proposed transfer of the Dallas/Fort Worth
Airport U.S. Customs Facility.
Section 2. That the Mayor, City Attorney, and City Manager are
authorized to communicate this position to the U.S. Congress
and appropriate administrative agencies and take other necessary
steps to prevent the proposed transfer.
