HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1027 V/ RESOLUTION NO. 10,2 WHEREAS, a petition was presented to the Mayor of the City of Fort Worth, Texas, on December 10, 1984, requesting, to wit: "the Fort Worth City Council to hold a tax rate increase rollback election to roll back the tax rate adopted by the City Council on September 11, 1984. (the current rate year) to the maximum allowable under state law 26.07 which is 8% (eight per- cent)" and, WHEREAS, said petition contained the signatures of 12,315 persons; and, WHEREAS, Section 26.07(2) of the Property Tax Code of the State of Texas states that a petition is valid, among other things, if it is signed by a number of qualified of the taxing unit equal to at least 10 percent of the number of qualified voters of the taxing unit according to the most recent official list of qualified voters not counting the signatures of voters gathered by a person who received compensation for circulating the petition; and, WHEREAS, on December 10, 1984, there were 216,572 registered voters in the City of Fort Worth; and, WHEREAS, the signatures of 12,315 persons do not constitute 10 per- cent of the registered voters of the City of Fort Worth on December 10, 1984: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, That the petition submitted on December 10, 1984, requesting a tax rate increase rollback election hereby be declared invalid. ti..i
