DISCUSSION
The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency
response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical services organizations Since
2001 AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment,
protective gear emergency vehicles training and other resources needed to protect the public and
emergency personnel from fire and related hazards The Grant Programs Directorate of the Federal
Emergency Management Agency administers the grants in cooperation with the U S Fire Administration
The money from this grant will be used in the Operations and Safety Division to purchase 100 Self
Contained Breathing Apparatus with Heads Up Displays to bring the Fire Department into compliance with
the 2007 edition of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) adopted by the Texas Commission on Fire
Protection The Fire Department believes that by utilizing these Self Contained Breathing Apparatus and
protecting fire fighters from toxic fumes the Fire Department will meet the city-wide objective of making
Fort Worth the safest city in the nation Today's complex incidents demand that we provide our rescue
technicians with as much high-performance equipment as possible to lessen the risk of injury and death
FISCAL INFORMATION /CERTIFICATION
