BF: IT HEREBY KNOWN: GVT-IEREAS, the Police Chief has requested dse City Council to rca~jusC and thereafter specify the total cumber of authorized civil service positions at fl1e police officer rank in the Police Department into wnformity with the proposed changes as set forth immediately below in order to effect efficient eeonamy of the operations of the Police Department; and WHEREAS, on September l fi, 20Q8, as part of the FY 2U08-2p09 Budgc;t approval process, the City Council approved #hc most recent ordinance concerning the aud7orized positimis far the Police Department. SECTION 3 `T'his ordinance shall be cumulative of all provisions of previous ordinances and of the Code of the City of Fort tuorth, Texas {1986}, as amended, except where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with the provisions of prior civil service staffing ordinances for the Police Department and such Code, in which event conflicting pmvisions of such ordinances and such code provisions are hereby repealed and this ordinance shall be controlling. SECTION 4. Approved on 11'4312009 = ord. hlo. 4 2-t?9-2409 DATE: Tuesday, January 13, 2049 LOG NAME: 35STAFFING REFERENCE Nd.: G-16426 SUBJECT: Adopt Civil Service Staffing Ordinance increasing Authorized Strength in the Police Department by fine CorporallDetective Position RECdMMENDATIdN: It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached ordinance specifying the number of authorized positions in the Police Department, increasing the number of authorized positions by one CorporallDetective effective January 77, 2009. DISCUSSIdN: On April 8, 2008, the City Council approved application and acceptance of grant funds from the Department of Justice {Dt7J} to identify, review and investigate violent crime cold cases that have the potential to be solved through DNA analysis {M&C C-22746}. The DflJ grant provides funding for a Detective position to review all outstanding cold case homicide files that have a high potential to be solved through DNA analysis and conduct investigations from newly discovered DNA evidence. The City of Fort Worth eeceived the Notice to Proceed in November 2008, so the grant-funded position must be added to the Department's authorized strength. The Potice Department's authorized civil service strength is 7,541. Upon approval of the attached staffing ordinance. the assignment of civil service positions authorized for the Police Department will result in the addition of one CorporallDetective for a total authorized civil service strength of 7,542. The addition of this position would result in the following changes in the authorized strength of the Police Department effective January 77, 2009.
