The intent of the program is to teach a set of standardized skills to firefighters across the county. Approved expenditures of apprenticeship funds include instructors' salaries, instructional materials/supplies, instructional equipment, rental, office supplies, postage and travel. The Fire Department will use these funds mainly to purchase instructional equipment for use in delivering training programs. The Fire Department enrolls all newly trained firefighters in the three-year program after their graduation ; from the Fire Department Training Academy.
