HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 21730-04-2015 i I I I i Ordinance No. 21730-04-2015 I I AN ORDINANCE INCREASING THE ESTIMATED RECEIPTS AND APPROPRIATIONS IN THE GRANTS FUND IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,000.00, SUBJECT TO RECEIPT OF A GRANT FROM THE AMERICAN LIBRARY ASSOCIATION, FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING EXPENSES RELATED TO THE DISCOVER TECH: ENGINEERS MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE TRAVELING EXHIBITION; PROVIDING FOR A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; MAKING THIS ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF PRIOR ORDINANCES; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. i BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS: SECTION 1. i That in addition to those amounts allocated to the various City departments for Fiscal Year 2014-2015 in the Budget of the City Manager, there shall also be increased estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund in the amount of $1,000.00, subject to receipt of a grant from The American Library Association, for the purpose of funding expenses related to The Discover Tech: Engineers Make a World of, Difference traveling exhibition. SECTION 2. That should any portion, section or part of a section of this ordinance be declared invalid, inoperative or void for any reason by a court of competent jurisdiction, such decision, opinion or judgment shall in no way impair the remaining portions, sections, or parts of sections of this ordinance, which said remaining provisions shall be and remain in full force and effect. SECTION 3. That this ordinance shall be cumulative of Ordinance No. 21457-09-2014 and all other ordinances and appropriations amending the same except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with such other ordinances and appropriations, in which instance said conflicting provisions of said prior ordinances and appropriations are hereby expressly repealed. Ratify the application for and authorize acceptance of, if awarded, a grant from the American Library Association for the Discover Tech: Engineers Make a World of Difference traveling exhibition and a grant award of$1,000.00 for the period January 2016 through December 2017; E i 2. Authorize the execution of a Grant Agreement with the American Library Association; and L 3. Adopt the attached appropriation ordinance increasing estimated receipts and appropriations in the Grants Fund in the amount of$1,000.00, subject to execution of the Grant Agreement and receipt of the grant funds. DISCUSSION: j The American Library Association funds programs that expand cooperative services for learning and access to information by cultivating collaborative public and private partnerships. The Discover Tech: Engineers Make a World of Difference exhibition will help audiences understand the nature of 21st Century technology and engineering and their potential to solve many of the world's problems. Employing 800 square feet of interactive displays, the exhibition illustrates the creative and collaborative design process used by engineers. Visitors will learn about the fundamental principles of energy, become aware of their own energy use and understand the impact of engineering on communities worldwide. C The Fort Worth Library will receive: . One 12-week exhibition valued at $125,000.00; . $1,000.00 to support programming related to the exhibition; Discover teacher guide with hands-on activities for various age groups to help in developing programs and support classroom visits; . Travel and accommodations to a two-day orientation for two Library staff members coordinating the exhibition and related programs; . Periodic webinars on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) topics to support programming; . Promotional materials to aid in local outreach; and . I FISCAL INFORMATION /CERTIFICATION: The Financial Management Services Director certifies that upon approval of the above recommendations, adoption of the appropriation ordinance, execution of the grant contract and receipt of the grant dollars, funds will be available in the current operating budget of the Grants Fund for appropriation through the remainder of the grant period.
