2-17-64 PZ°92 South Alley 'in Blk. 1,, Hirshfield Add. 1 of 1
The General Services Administration, in-connection- with the construction
of the new Federal Office Building, has requested the closing- of Monroe
Street, between 10th Street and a line 350..15 feet north of 10th Street
(measured along the west side of the street), and the xiorth-south alley
in Block- 1, Hirshfield Addition, between. 10th Street and a line 250 feet
north of 10th Street. This is in accordance with a resolution adopted
by the- City Council on July 99, 1962. Prints are attached showing the re-
quested street and alley closing"s.
The Planning Director reports that he has been advised by the General
Services Administration that this portion.of 'Monroe Street will not be
physically closed-prior to May 1,, 1964, when construction is expected to
begin on the new federal Center.
Private utility companies and the Public Works, Traffic Engineering, J
Water, and Planning Departments have been contacted and offer no objec-
tion to the proposed street and- alley closings, provided easements are
retained for all existing u.'t-ilities. An easement is being retained in
the alley for an existing sanitary sewer line until the line is relocated,
which will be at no expense to the City;
The City Plan Commission at a- meeting, on February 129, 1964, _reviewed the
request and recommended that the City Council adopt an, ordinance closing
the- street and alley, subject to necessary easements being retained.
It is recommended that:
(1) The City Council adopt an ordinance closing that portion of
Monroe Street between. 10th Street and Throckmorton Street., _
and the north-south alley in Block 19 Hirshfield Addition, and
(2) The Mayor be authorized to execute a quit claim deed convey-
ing to the U.. S. Government the west 1705 feet of the east
25 feet of the vacated portion of Monroe-Street which is re-
quired in connection with the constriction of the new•Fede'ral
Gepter. Upon the closing of this pottion of Monroe Street,
the 'east 25 feet will revert to the City as the abutting
property owner.
