DISCUSSION: The 2014 Bond Package approved by the citizens of Fort Worth included funds to construct a new library on the East side of Fort Worth. After careful consideration, the Lancaster location was chosen due to the proximity to residential and commercial property and because this location provides the best access for citizens. Staff recommends acquiring the approximate 1.6 acres of land located at 3851 E. Lancaster Avenue from Meadowbrook United Methodist Church for the development and construction of the new library. The process to select an architect to design the library will begin in the fall of 2018. Construction is anticipated to be started in the fall of 2019, with a tentative opening for the library in the spring/summer of 2021. The total purchase price of the property is in the amount of$185,000.00 and an additional amount of $20,000.00 for closing costs.
