DISCUSSION The Fire Department will use these funds to purchase equipment identified as needed to raise the City's ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC} from 3 to 2. In 1999-00 the Fire Department participated in an informal ISO assessment to determine the steps needed in order to achieve a PPC 2 rating Three areas of improvement were identified -the increase of fire company staffing from 3 to 4 persons per shift, providing a Compressed Air Foam System (CAPS) for fire pumpers and the acquisition of various hose nozzles and other equipment. The purchase of the nozzles and other equipment is the last area of improvement needed for the Fire Department to schedule a formal review by ISO to upgrade the PPC rating Upon adoption of the appropriation ordinance the Fire Department will follow standard City purchasing procedures for acquisition of the equipment. FISCAL INFORMATION/CERTIFICATION The Finance Director certifies that upon adoption of the attached appropriation ordinance funds will be available in the Fiscal Year 2004-2005 operating budget, as appropriated of the General Fund Upon completion of this action the unreserved undesignated fund balance of the General Fund will be $47 753 635 TO Fund/Account/Centers FROM Fund/Account/Centers GG01 524010 0365510 $100.000.00 GG01 524010 0365510 $100,000.00 Submitted for City Manager's Office b~ Joe Paniagua (6140) Originating Department Head.
