HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance 3206 ORDINANCE NO AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PARAGRAPH 6-10, SECTION 8, ORDINANCE NO. 2976, KNOWN AS THE PLUMBING CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, SAID PARAGRAPH DEALING WITH LAWN SPRINKLER SYSTEMS; DEFINING TERMS; MAKING MATERIAL AND INSTALLATION REQUIRE- MENTS ONLY IN CERTAIN PORTIONS OF SAID SYSTEM; PERMITTING INSTALLATIONS IN PARKWAYS; DENYING LIABILITY TO OWNER FOR DAMAGE DONE TO SYSTEM BECAUSE OF MAINTENANCE OF UTILITIES; MAKING THE ORDINANCE CUMULATIVE OF ALL ORDINANCES REGULATING PLUMBING; PROVIDING A SAVING CLAUSE; PROVIDING A PENALTY; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH: SECTION 1 That Paragraph 8-10, Section 8, Ordinance No. 2978, !mown as the plumbing code of the City of Fort Worth, be amended to read as follows: Paragraph 8-10, Lawn Sprinkler Systems. a. Definitions. Lawn Sprinkler Systea is the entire pipeline, connections, and attachments from the outlet side of a water service line connection making up an underground system for watering lawns. Water Service Line is the pipe line from the water main or other source of water supply to the building or premises served. Secondary Service Line is the pipe and its attachments which are directly connected with the water service line. Sprinkler-Head Line is the pipe and its attachments which are connected with the secondary service line, but does not include any anti- siphon safety devices as are hereinafter required. b. Material and Installation Requirements for Sprinkler-Head Lines. Non-metallic sprinkler-head line portions of• a lawn sprinkler system may be installed, provided that the vendor thereof has furnished his purchaser with the manufacturer's installation recommendations which shall include the recommended depth underground of the sprinkler-head line pipe. Metallic sprinkler-head line portions of a lawn sprinkler system must be installed in accordance with the pertinent provisions of the Plumbing Code as to materials, connections, and fittings and the pipe must be installed not less than 12" underground. In all systems, the sprinkler-heads shall be installed so as to direct water spray away from any public street or sidewalk. c. )material and Installation Re cements for Secondary Service Lin". The secondary service line pipe shall be metallic and shall com- ply with the specifications required in the Plumbing Code of the City of Fort Worth. Said pipe shall be not less than 12" below the sur- face of the ground. Every lawn sprinkler system shall be provided with a master shut-off valve and a drain, both of which shall be installed in a castiron box with a removable cover, the valve and drain being at least 12" under the ground. Every* lawn sprinkler system shall be installed with one or more back flow preventors. d. Sprinkler Systems Permitted Between the Sidewalk and Curb. Nothing in this ordinance shall prohibit the installation of a lawn sprinkler system in the public parkway between the sidewalk and street. However, the City of Fort Worth shall not be held liable for any damage to such system which results from the installation, maintenance or repair of any sewer or water mains, or from the widen- ing or improvement of any street. Nor shall this permission in any way affect existing easements in said parkways Of any individual or corporation. SECTION 2 This ordinance shall be cumulative of all ordinances regulating the installation of plumbing and shall not be construed to repeal provisions of any of those ordinances except in those instances where the provisions of this ordinance are in direct conflict with the provision of those ordinances. SECTION 3 If any section, subsection or any part of this ordinance shall be held to be unconstitutional or inoperative, such invalidity dhall not affect any of the remaining portions thereof, it being the express intention of the City Council to enact constitutional and operative provisions and they would not have included any unconstitutional or inoperative provision if they had known of such invalidity at the time of the adoption of the ordinance. SECTION 4 Any person, firm or corporation that violates any provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by fine not to exceed the amount of $200.00. Each day during which a violation continues shall be a separate offense. SECTION 5 This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force and effect from and after the date of its passage and publication as provided by law. APPROVED AS TO FORM AND LEGALITY: �tant�yttorneyeY
