PRE-COUNCIL ROOM 1) Status Report by Special Crime Committee of Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce - Earle Shields, Chairman (30 Min. ) Oc� I t 1jur'llat * * * * * * * * * * * To add or make revisions, please call the City Manager' s Office, 870-6143, before 3 :00 P.M. , Monday, May 7, 1984 The purpose of the Pre-Council Conference held prior to a regular City Council Meeting is to allow the Mayor and Councilmembers to discuss informally items on the agenda and to secure information from the City Manager and the staff. Although the meeting is open to the public, citizens are requested to reserve comments and questions for the subsequent Council meeting so they will be a part of the public record. Pre-Council Agenda Amok May 8, 1984 Absent Bagsby ITEM REFERRED T0: 1) Status Report By Special Crime Committee of Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce Wetherby: Why is Fort Worth number two in crime in the state? (G.K.Mannis: It took us some years to get up to staff, now need to adjust the laws, like .otolen property to help the force.) Lancaster: Gear up? How? (Mannis: Look at growth and population ratio to officers, and how to retain officers.) Wetherby: What statutes need up grading? (Mannis: Fencing laws not adequate.) Wetherby: Can we have TML make it a priority this session? (Herchert: Want to look at specifics, can be helpful to come up with a proposed bill.) Lancaster: Wants to use this as a starting point to identify issues that impact crime, and how resources at the state and federal levels are dis- tributed.)
