COUNCIL MEMBERS No. 7335 +'°T`"' November 15, 1988 At oaro To the Mayor and Members of the City Council y u z "rexa`' Subject: WHITE TIGER FOR THE FORT WORTH ZOO In October 1988, the Fort Worth Zoo acquired a white tiger to replace a Siberian Tiger which died in January 1988. Other zoos which exhibit white tigers find they are very popular with their visitors because they are rare and beautiful animals. Usually, they become one of the most popular displays and featured exhibits. Acquisition of this specimen should bolster Zoo attendance while not increasing operating costs as existing funds are already budgeted for the deceased tiger. The animal is presently in quarantine and will be housed in the new Asian Diorama upon completion. The tiger, a femal called "Neela", was born July 4, 1985 at the Cincinnati Zoo and weighs slightly over 200 pounds. Its crisp black stripes contrast with the white background fur more than other white tigers for an exceptional appearance. If additional information is desired, it will be furnished upon request.
