AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 3271, THE PLUMBING
CODE OF THE CITY OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS, BY AMENDING PARA-
GRAPH 14-3 THEREOF REGULATING GAS AND LIQUID HEATING
UNITS; DECLARING THAT THIS ORDINANCE SHALL BE CUMULATIVE
OF ALL OTHER ORDINANCES; PROVIDING A PENALTY, PROVIDING
A SAVINGS CLAUSE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT NORTH, TEXAS:
SECTION 1.
That Ordinance No. 3271, being the Plumbing Code of the City of Fort
Worth, Texas, be and it is hereby amended so that hereafter Paragraph 14-3
of such ordinance shall read as follows:
Paragraph 14-3. GAS AND LIQUID HEATING UNITS
(b) All heating supply ducts shall be constructed of metal
in all residential or buildings of frame construction, and shall
extend from the heating unit to the grill openings, or shall be
constructed of round glass fiber ducts that comply and are approved
by the National Board of Fire Underwriters for installation in
residence type warm air heating and air conditioning systems and
meets the requirements of Bulletin NBFU-90B. Such ducts shall
be constructed of glass fiber round ducts, galvanized iron or
aluminum of gauges in accordance with the following:
GLASS FIBER ROUND DUCTS
1. Joints shall be made by use of short pieces of 28 gauge
sheet metal pipe as reinforcement and/or alignment
sleeves with the sections butted tightly over the
sleeves with the Joints sealed with approved fire-
resistive tape.
2. Reductions, bends and branch fittings shall be made
with 28 gauge sheet metal pipe with Joints as speci-
fied in Section (1) above. Branch ducts shall be at
least two (2) pipe sizes smaller than the duct to
which connected.
3. The duct system shall be supported from Joints or
structural framing members with not less than three-
fourths (3/4) inch wide 28 gauge sheet metal straps
at not more than four foot intervals and shall be
designed so that the system shall support only its
own weight.

Linings used inside of ducts shall be fire-resistive.
Joints and seams of such ducts shall be securely fastened and
made substantially air-tight. Slip Joints shall have a lap of at
least one inch and shall be individually fastened.
Such ducts shall be securely supported by metal hangers,
straps, lugs or brackets. No nails shall be driven through the
duct walls and no unnecessary holes shall be cut therein.
Central warm air gravity systems which are automatically
fired with oil or gas shall have approved temperature limit
controls and shall have at least one register or grill without
a closeable shutter and the duct leading thereto shall be with-
out a damper.
SECTION 2.
This ordinance shall be cumulative of all other ordinances of the City
of Fort Worth except in those instances where such ordinances are in con-
flict herewith, in which instances the terms of this ordinance shall prevail.
SECTION 3.
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this ordinance
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction thereof, shall be
fined not to exceed Two Hundred Dollars ($2010.00).
SECTION 4.
Should any section, articles, provision or part of this ordinance be
declared to be unconstitutional and void by a court of competent Jurisdiction,
such decision shall in no way affect the validity of any of the remaining
parts of this ordinance unless the part held unconstitutional or void is
inseparable from and indispensable to the operation of the remaining parts.
The City Council hereby declares that it would have passed those parts of
this ordinance which are valid and omitted any parts which may be unconsti-
tutional if it had known that such parts were unconstitutional at the time
of the passage of this ordinance.
SECTION 5.
This ordinance shall take effect and be in fall force and effect from
and after the date of its passage and publication as provided by lax.
