The City's current Storm Water Drainage Program, developed in the 1960's and revised in1986 does not
address channel erosion and all aspects of flooding impacts downstream of development. The City does
not have an inventory or condition assessment of the existing drainage system
In response to Council direction City staff began preparing an Enhanced Storm Water Management
Program to 'protect natural resources and property and ensure public safety by managing storm water
runoff The proposed program will proceed in two phases.
Phase 1 will update the City's drainage policies and design standards in cooperation with the regional
integrated Storm Water Management (iSWM) program to ensure that the City doesn't make things
worse Phase 1 will also include preparation of a five-year plan to improve the storm water management
program #o determine 'how we make things better
Phase 2 will develop funding strategies and an implementation plan based. on recommendations in Phase
